Anonymous asked: Caskett. Rick tracks Kate down on his own in 6x17 and walks in on her being tortured.
He hears it before he makes it inside.
The ragged cry, the choking desperation. His wife, and yes God help him he’s already referring to her as that in his head. Kate Kate Kate his heart thrashes, his blood rips down his veins and he slams his way inside of the room.
It’s like an assault. Vulcan Simmons and the bucket of ice water and the guards and the woman he loves on her knees. They’re startled, the people in this room, and he’s ready for it. Castle raises the gun he took from his safe before he came here and calmly puts a bullet between the eyes of Vulcan Simmons.
Self-defence, he’ll say later. And the city will welcome it, grateful to have this man eradicated from its seedy underbelly.
Somehow, he hasn’t been shot yet. The guard holding Kate has wrenched her out of the water and tossed her aside like a rag doll and the three men in the room now have their guns trained on him. Only, they look a little less sure of themselves with the body of their boss prone at their feet.
Kate’s eyes are screwed closed and she’s grinding her face into the concrete, her chest hitching and her bones clattering. Rick has never, ever been so grateful for the boys bursting in at his back.
He didn’t tell them, but he didn’t hide either. Knew they’d tail him here. And now swarms of uniforms are pouring in as well, Gates heading them up and the guards are being handcuffed. Rick almost, almost pities the guard whom Esposito is charged with.
There’s no time for that, though. Falling to his knees at her side, Rick scrapes his fiancée off of the ground and clutches her to his chest, kisses the pale lines of her face and smoothes her hair back over and over. She manages to peel her eyes open and stares up at him, shock visibly setting in.
Two fingers come up to mark her place against his mouth. “Castle.”
“I’m here. Oh thank God, Kate. You’re okay. I’ve got you. You’re okay, baby.”
“Love- love you.” She whimpers, screwing her face into his shirt so the tears soak down to the bone.
Carding a hand through her hair, Castle rocks her like a newborn and does his very best to soothe. “I love you too, Kate. So much.”
